New Delhi, April 15: A devastating fire broke out early Wednesday morning in the slums of Budh Vihar, located in the Rohini area of the national capital, resulting in the tragic deaths of three family members. Among the deceased were a husband, wife, and their two-year-old daughter.
The incident caused panic and chaos throughout the neighborhood. According to the fire department, they received reports of the blaze around 1:25 AM. Six fire engines were dispatched to the scene immediately. However, firefighters faced significant challenges reaching the site due to the narrow lanes and dense slum area. Despite their efforts, the fire was brought under control only after the loss of three lives.
Officials reported that the fire erupted in a plot measuring approximately 400 square yards, which contained a large amount of plastic scrap and debris. Around 5-6 families lived in the vicinity, totaling 18 to 20 residents who worked as ragpickers. The sudden blaze engulfed the entire plot, destroying all belongings in the slums, including beds, coolers, refrigerators, and other household items.
The fire spread so rapidly that residents had no time to escape. The deceased family could not exit their dwelling, leading to their immediate demise. The victims have been identified as Musibur (25), Murar (23), and Moimona (2).
Ajay Sharma, an official from the Delhi Fire Service, stated that the fire was caused by the accumulation of plastic scrap in the slums. The fire has now been completely extinguished. Meanwhile, local police, the electricity department, and other agencies arrived on-site to assist with rescue and relief efforts.
The bodies of the deceased have been taken for post-mortem examination. The police have initiated an investigation and are reviewing footage from nearby CCTV cameras. Family members of the victims have alleged that the fire may have been set intentionally. The police are exploring all angles to uncover the true cause of this tragic incident.
