Womens Role Crucial in Nations Development: Minister Nikhil Khadse

New Delhi, April 15: Union Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports, Nikhil Khadse, emphasized the significant role of women in the nation’s development during a conversation with a news agency regarding the Women’s Reservation Bill. He stated that efforts are underway to ensure no sector is left behind in the country’s progress, with Prime Minister Modi and the Indian government actively working across various fields.

Khadse pointed out that women constitute 50% of the electorate in India. Therefore, it is essential for women to have representation in decision-making processes through the Assembly and Lok Sabha. He highlighted that women’s involvement in policy-making can play a pivotal role, making the bill crucial. Securing a 33% reservation for women would be a significant achievement, underscoring their vital role in national development.

Discussing the bill’s impact at the grassroots level, he noted that it has proven effective, as local bodies already have 50% reservation for women. Women are competently working in various capacities, from Panchayats to Municipal Corporations. This is an opportunity to elevate these women and advance the nation, thanks to the provisions set by PM Modi.

Khadse mentioned that women have reached local governance levels through 50% reservation. If given the chance in the Assembly and Lok Sabha, they could provide strong leadership.

Responding to opposition concerns about delays in implementation, Khadse assured that this is not a long-term promise. It has been previously stated that the bill will be enacted by the 2029 elections, allowing women to represent themselves in the Assembly and Lok Sabha under the Nari Shakti Vandan Act.

When questioned about caste-based census issues raised by the opposition, Khadse remarked that opposition is expected to voice dissent. The government is making decisions after thorough discussions. He stressed the necessity of implementing reservations post-reorganization in 2029, which will increase women’s representation. Currently, women’s participation is notably low. As a three-time MP and Minister, he shared his journey from being a village head to reaching the Lok Sabha.

Khadse emphasized that as women’s numbers increase, they will be able to articulate their needs effectively. He called for support from all political parties for the Nari Shakti Vandan Act, as it is not just for one party but for all women in the country.

He also noted that in states with female Chief Ministers, efforts are being made to ensure women’s safety. Female leaders are addressing women’s issues, as many girls in rural areas still lack access to education. Health-related problems often go unreported, causing significant distress for women. With more female MPs, these issues can be communicated more effectively.

Khadse concluded by stating that rural women can also aspire to enter the Assembly and Lok Sabha through the Nari Shakti Vandan Act.
