Ranchi, March 6: Mahua Majhi, a Rajya Sabha member from the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), has sharply criticized the central government regarding Bihar’s political situation, the transfer of governors, and India’s foreign policy amid ongoing conflicts in the Middle East. She stated that any regional party that allies with the BJP ends up facing losses.
In an interview with a news agency, Majhi remarked that the current events in Bihar are a complete disrespect to the people’s mandate. Voters supported Nitish Kumar based on his track record as a multiple-time Chief Minister, and the BJP’s recent actions will ultimately harm him the most.
Majhi pointed out that while the opposition’s views may differ, the BJP’s political stance is eroding its credibility. She accused the BJP of causing harm to any regional party it partners with.
Citing examples, she mentioned the situation with the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), which has been weakened over time. Important bills were passed in Parliament with BJD’s support, only for the party to be politically betrayed later.
She also alleged that several BJD MPs were coerced into resigning and joining the BJP. Majhi noted that the saying “bite the hand that feeds you” is becoming increasingly relevant. She believes that the current political developments in Bihar will make many regional parties reconsider alliances with the BJP in the future.
On the issue of governor transfers and postings across various states, Majhi expressed that the BJP has previously been in the spotlight for such decisions. She recalled that when Jagdeep Dhankhar was the Governor of West Bengal, he frequently expressed support for the central government, which blurred the lines of the governor’s impartial constitutional role, leading to ongoing conflicts with Mamata Banerjee.
With upcoming elections in West Bengal, discussions around this topic are natural, and the state government remains wary of potential political maneuvers.
Majhi also referenced Jharkhand, where attempts were made to trouble the Chief Minister through the governor during elections. Although there were efforts to exert political pressure, they ultimately failed. Such strategies are evident in many states, which is why Mamata Banerjee’s concerns cannot be overlooked.
Regarding India’s foreign policy amid ongoing conflicts and global tensions, Majhi remarked that the central government often claims to make India a “Vishwaguru,” but genuine diplomatic strength and cooperation are tested during international crises.
She highlighted that during the recent Operation Sindoor, India did not receive the expected support from countries it relied on. In such circumstances, the government’s priority should be the safety of its citizens and ensuring their return home.
Majhi noted that families of Indians working or studying in the Middle East are currently engulfed in fear and anxiety. The government must devise a clear and effective plan to facilitate the return of Indian nationals.
She further stated that global tensions are escalating, and the world seems to be approaching the brink of major wars. In the event of a nuclear conflict, no region remains safe. Therefore, the world needs leadership that can make decisions through patience, understanding, and dialogue. In times of international crises, patience and diplomatic balance are the true strengths of any nation.
