Maharashtra Minister Assesses Drought Impact, Promises Support for Farmers

Jalna, October 2 (Daily Kiran) : Maharashtra’s Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule recently visited drought-affected areas in Jalna and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar to assess the damage to crops and orchards. During his visit, he engaged with local farmers to understand their challenges and instructed officials to conduct a swift and accurate assessment of the losses.

In Jalna, Bawankule toured the village of Varudi in the Badnapur taluka, where he inspected the fields affected by the drought. Accompanying him was MLA Narayan Kuche. The minister noted that the region’s pigeon pea and cotton crops are nearing their end, while the lack of water has led to the wilting of fruit orchards. He highlighted the severe impact on the cultivation of mosambi and reported damage to turmeric crops in Hingoli. Bawankule emphasized the need for effective measures to protect the remaining fruit orchards under the current conditions.

He also addressed the villagers’ request to provide fodder to local panchayats based on the number of livestock, rather than establishing fodder camps. This approach, he believes, would allow panchayats to distribute fodder more effectively.

Bawankule reassured farmers that the government stands firmly with them during this crisis. He has directed relevant officials to expedite the survey of damages in the affected areas.

During his visit to Jalna, he was joined by several officials and local leaders, including additional district collector Ramesh Misal and former district president Badrinath Pathade.

Following his tour in Jalna, Bawankule inspected drought-hit areas near Satna Phata in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. He again spoke with farmers to understand their issues and reiterated the government’s commitment to provide all possible assistance. He instructed officials to promptly assess the damage in these regions as well.

Among those present during this visit were MLAs Anuradha Chavan and N.T. Kuche, along with local officials and citizens.
