Maharashtra Government Proposes Amendments to Explosive Rules to Enhance Safety

Mumbai, June 7: The Maharashtra government is set to take significant steps to prevent accidents in explosive manufacturing companies. A crucial meeting was held under the leadership of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to discuss amendments to the “Explosive Rules, 2008,” focusing on strengthening safety standards.

According to information shared by the Chief Minister’s office on social media, the state government has decided to present a proposal for amendments to the central government aimed at improving safety measures in explosive manufacturing companies. The meeting was attended by senior police officials, along with various other high-ranking officials and dignitaries.

Chief Minister Fadnavis also took to social media to emphasize the need for enhancing safety standards in the explosive manufacturing sector. He noted that the primary objective of the proposed amendments is to prevent accidents and ensure the safety of workers.

According to CM Fadnavis, the proposed changes will include increased use of robotics and automation in high-risk tasks, minimizing human intervention, and strictly adhering to international safety standards. He believes that employing modern technology can significantly reduce the likelihood of accidents.

It is noteworthy that the “Explosive Rules, 2008” regulate the manufacture, storage, use, sale, transportation, import, and export of explosives across the country. Compliance with these regulations is mandatory nationwide, including in Maharashtra. The Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organization (PESO) administers these rules.

This initiative by the state government comes at a time when there is a heightened focus on industrial safety and technological modernization. It is anticipated that the implementation of the proposed amendments will further strengthen safety measures in the explosive industry and help prevent future accidents.
