LeT Handler Shabbir Ahmed Lone Sent to Judicial Custody in Metro Poster Case

New Delhi, April 4: The Special Cell of Delhi Police has presented Shabbir Ahmed Lone, a handler for the terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), in court. Lone was arrested in connection with a recently uncovered module linked to the metro poster case. Following the completion of his five-day police custody, he was brought before the Patiala House Court on Saturday, where the judge ordered him to be held in judicial custody for seven days.

According to police reports, Shabbir Ahmed Lone was the handler of the same module that previously led to the arrest of eight suspects, including seven Bangladeshi nationals and one Indian. Investigating agencies believe this module was systematically plotting to carry out terrorist activities within the country.

The Special Cell’s investigation has also revealed that Shabbir Ahmed Lone’s involvement in the metro poster case is under scrutiny. He was arrested and interrogated, during which several critical pieces of information were gathered, aiding further investigations.

During the court proceedings, the investigating agency disclosed that the interrogation of Lone yielded significant leads regarding the module’s network, funding, and associates. However, the investigation is ongoing, and agencies are working to reach other members of this network. Given the seriousness of the case, the court has remanded the accused to seven days of judicial custody.

Previously, on March 30, the court had sent Shabbir Ahmed Lone to five days of police custody.

According to Pramod Singh Kushwaha, Additional Commissioner of the Special Cell, Shabbir was arrested on the night of March 29 in the Ghazipur area of Delhi. This operation was overseen by DCP Praveen Tripathi. Shabbir is a trained and hardcore terrorist who has received training in Pakistan and was operating his module from Bangladesh. He was involved in placing posters in sensitive areas, including the Supreme Court vicinity.

During his arrest, various currencies from different countries were recovered from Shabbir. He was found in possession of a Nepalese SIM card, approximately 2,300 Bangladeshi Taka, around 5,000 Pakistani Rupees, and 3,000 Indian Rupees.
