Tehran, June 20: The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Ismail Baghaei, announced that the meeting between Iranian and American delegations scheduled in Switzerland has been postponed. Plans for another meeting are underway in the coming days.
According to a statement from the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Baghaei indicated that consultations are ongoing through intermediaries for the next stage of talks, and a new date will be announced once conditions are finalized.
As reported by the Xinhua news agency, the Iranian Foreign Minister stated that the commencement of discussions between Iran and the US, under a recently signed memorandum of understanding, depends on the implementation of certain conditions. These include ending hostilities and military operations across all fronts, lifting the US Navy blockade, reopening the Strait of Hormuz for ships without fees for 60 days, granting exemptions for the export of Iranian crude oil, petroleum products, and derivatives, and releasing Iran’s frozen assets.
Baghaei noted that the meeting on Friday was intended to discuss arrangements for signing the agreement and finalizing the deal. However, he mentioned that this became unnecessary when Iranian President Masoud Pajeshkian and his American counterpart, Donald Trump, electronically signed the documents on Thursday morning.
He further stated that under the agreement, Iran will maintain its current nuclear status and limit IAEA oversight to sites like the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant. He added that access to previously restricted sites due to US and Israeli attacks will depend on the negotiation process and its outcomes.
On Monday morning, after several weeks of discussions, Iran, the US, and Pakistan announced the finalization of an agreement to end hostilities in the region, including Lebanon.
It is noteworthy that on February 28, Israel and the US jointly attacked Tehran and other Iranian cities. In retaliation, Iran launched several missile and drone strikes targeting Israeli and US assets in the region, strengthening its control over the Strait of Hormuz, which halted the movement of Israeli and American vessels.
