New Delhi, June 20: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has made significant strides in its investigation of ethnic violence in Manipur, arresting 10 suspects on Friday. This operation was conducted in collaboration with the Manipur Police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).
According to the NIA, simultaneous search operations were carried out in several districts, including Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur, Churachandpur, Ukhrul, Chandel, and Pherzawl. The arrests were made based on evidence collected during these investigations.
The agency reported that the arrested individuals were actively involved in various violent incidents during the ethnic unrest in Manipur. These incidents include attacks on security forces, theft of weapons and ammunition, as well as bank robberies.
The NIA stated that this operation was based on extensive intelligence information, technical analysis, and ground investigations. The aim is to identify individuals involved in criminal and terrorist activities in the state, regardless of their community affiliations.
The agency believes that these arrests could provide crucial insights into the planning, execution, and supporting networks behind the violent incidents. Additionally, the NIA is investigating potential links between various events, the accused, and militant organizations.
The investigation into the violence in Manipur is ongoing, and further necessary actions will be taken.
Recently, the Director General of Police (DGP) Mukesh Singh provided significant information regarding the weapons looted during the ethnic violence. He stated that approximately 70% of the looted firearms have been recovered, while efforts to locate and retrieve the remaining weapons and ammunition have been intensified.
The DGP emphasized that police and other security forces will take strict action against those still in illegal possession of weapons and ammunition. Legal measures will be enforced, and offenders will be apprehended. He also warned that anyone attempting to shoot at or attack on-duty police officers and security personnel will face severe consequences.
