His ascetic life dedicated to farmers’ welfare, social awakening, and the rights of marginalized communities will always be a source of inspiration.”
Born on February 22, 1889, Swami Sahajanand Saraswati is regarded as the father of organized farmers’ movements in India. He founded the Bihar Provincial Kisan Sabha in 1929 and played a significant role in the formation of the All India Kisan Sabha in 1936.
Sahajanand Saraswati fought for farmers’ rights, the abolition of the zamindari system, and social justice. Additionally, he strengthened the independent farmers’ movement due to the neglect of farmers’ interests. His leadership provided a new direction to farmers’ consciousness not only in Bihar but also in other parts of the country.
