Gaya, September 19 (Daily Kiran) : Lawyers in Gaya staged a protest on Saturday by blocking a road near the Civil Court. They allege that employees from the Civil Lines police station have been harassing them and interfering with the construction of their chambers.
Following reports of the demonstration, local officials including Sub-Divisional Officer Anil Kumar Raman and Civil Lines Station House Officer Shami Ahmed arrived to speak with the protesting lawyers. After discussions, the lawyers agreed to clear the road, allowing traffic to resume.
According to the lawyers, the government had allocated land for the construction of their chambers and approved funding for the project. They stated that following a directive from the Patna High Court, the Bar Association was instructed to commence construction on the allocated land.
Bar Association official Ravindra Prasad confirmed that construction had begun in accordance with the High Court’s orders. However, he accused the Civil Lines police of interfering with the work and harassing the lawyers, which led to growing frustration among the legal community.
In response to the police interference, the lawyers blocked the road, asserting that with land allocated, funds approved, and construction orders given, there should be no obstacles to the project. They demanded that the administration ensure the work continues without interruption and called for an investigation into the alleged harassment by police officers. They insisted that appropriate action should be taken if the allegations are proven true.
Officials reassured the lawyers that their complaints would be addressed. Following this assurance, the blockade was lifted, and normal traffic flow was restored.
