Chandigarh, September 19 (Daily Kiran) : Central Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has urged the people of Punjab to engage in a decisive battle against the ongoing drug crisis. In a video message shared on X, he expressed concern over the severe impact of drugs on families and youth in the state.
Chouhan highlighted that many families have been devastated by drug abuse, which has ruined the lives and futures of countless young individuals. Under the Indian National Congress’s campaign, the BJP is organizing a “Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatra” across Punjab, which commenced on September 18 in Madhopur, Pathankot. The initiative includes multiple rallies from four locations.
On September 21, Chouhan, along with Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, will flag off the fourth leg of the journey after offering prayers at Takht Sri Damdama Sahib in Talwandi Sabo.
Before his visit to Punjab, Chouhan expressed his discontent with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, stating it has failed to effectively address the drug issue. He emphasized that it is now time for Punjab’s people to unite against drugs. The BJP’s campaign will run from September 18 to September 30, aiming to mobilize support for a drug-free Punjab.
He called upon the residents, saying, “Brothers and sisters of Punjab, come forward and participate in this journey in large numbers to make Punjab drug-free. Let us fight decisively against drugs.”
In a related event, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta flagged off the second “Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatra” from Fatehgarh Sahib. She criticized the AAP government for repeatedly extending deadlines to eliminate drugs from the state, noting that initial promises made by leaders like Arvind Kejriwal and Bhagwant Mann have not been fulfilled.
Gupta remarked that the 13-day journey aims to liberate Punjab from the AAP government. Before the journey, she paid her respects at a historic Gurudwara, a site significant for its connection to the martyrdom of Guru Gobind Singh’s younger sons.
