Jaipur, July 19: BJP legislator Bal Mukund Acharya has responded to the ongoing protests at Jantar Mantar, where demonstrators are demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. His comments follow the removal of social activist Sonam Wangchuk from the protest site.
In a media interaction in Jaipur, Acharya stated that everyone has the right to protest. However, he expressed concern that some individuals have misused this right, attempting to create a toxic atmosphere in the country.
Acharya emphasized that while everyone is entitled to their rights in a free nation, the recent protest saw some individuals attempting to undermine national values. He remarked, “You have seen what happened during this protest. Some individuals suddenly appeared, trying to create an environment against the country’s core values. Such incidents occur from time to time.”
He acknowledged that no one objected to Sonam Wangchuk’s right to protest. However, he condemned the anti-national slogans and derogatory comments made about Lord Ram during the demonstration, stating that such behavior is unacceptable. “Insulting Ram and Janaki, who are central to our faith, is not permissible. It is natural to express anger when someone makes offensive remarks about Lord Ram,” he added.
On the other hand, MP Neeraj Maurya criticized the treatment of activist Sonam Wangchuk at Jantar Mantar. He stated that the manner in which she was handled was inappropriate for a democratic system. Maurya suggested that the government and its ministers should engage in dialogue with her, as she was peacefully protesting and on a hunger strike. He noted that when the same individuals were in opposition, they supported similar actions. “The government is formed by the people and for the people. If the government approaches Sonam Wangchuk for a conversation, it won’t diminish their authority. Issues are resolved through dialogue,” he emphasized, highlighting the need for Wangchuk’s voice in the country and society.
Regarding the upcoming Monsoon Session of Parliament starting on July 20, MP Neeraj Maurya stated that they will positively raise the voices and concerns of the public. He added, “If the government chooses not to respond or run the House, that is their prerogative. We will speak for the people, and there should be an opportunity to present their issues, as we were sent here by the public.”
