New Delhi, July 19: The Congress party and other opposition groups have announced their intention to confront the central government on several critical issues during the upcoming monsoon session of Parliament. Key topics include alleged embezzlement of donations at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, the NEET-UG paper leak scandal, and the forced hospitalization of environmental activist Sonam Wangchuk.
Speaking to reporters, Congress MP Kumari Selja stated, “We will certainly raise multiple issues. These include student-related concerns, the theft at the Ram Temple, and rising inflation. The government neither sees nor hears the people’s worries. Inflation is increasing, and petrol prices have gone up, yet the government remains silent about its policies.”
She further commented, “Experts are unable to explain the issues surrounding ethanol, and consumers are bearing the brunt of this.”
After an all-party meeting convened by the government, Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi expressed, “I believe there are several pressing issues facing the nation that are far more important than the bills presented by the government. The opposition has consistently demanded discussions on these matters in Parliament, and the government must respond.”
Gogoi urged the government to show ‘sensitivity’ regarding the Ram Temple donation theft case. Leaders of the opposition in both houses, Mallikarjun Kharge in the Rajya Sabha and Rahul Gandhi in the Lok Sabha, have jointly written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding this issue.
He added, “We are also observing the injustices faced by students and various protests occurring nationwide, yet there is no accountability from the government.”
Congress MP Manish Tewari indicated that they would also draw attention to the issue of party-switching among various opposition parties. He stated, “The fundamental issue is that the mandate given by the people in 2024 and the current structure of the Lok Sabha are very different. Therefore, Parliament should first address the widespread issue of defection. This defection has occurred not due to ideological differences or policy disagreements, but purely out of opportunism.”
He emphasized, “Parliament should prioritize discussions on how to prevent such defections over all other matters.”
Following the all-party meeting, Samajwadi Party MP Dharmendra Yadav mentioned, “We have raised several issues on behalf of our party and demanded that the government bring these matters to the House for discussion. We hope the House will allow us to discuss our notices.”
He highlighted the critical issue of theft and fraud related to funds and donations during the construction of the Ram Temple, stating, “This is a matter of fraud and betrayal that has hurt the sentiments of the Sanatan community. We demand that these issues be brought to the House so that people have the opportunity to hear and understand them.”
Yadav also pointed out the NEET-UG paper leak as a significant issue, which has led to student suicides, as well as the forced hospitalization of Sonam Wangchuk. He insisted, “We will raise these issues in Parliament at all costs.”
Criticizing the BJP-led central government, CPI-M leader Hannan Mollah described it as a government of “corruption, scandals, anti-democratic activities, and looters.”
He remarked, “Allegations have surfaced that money is being looted from the Ram Temple and several other temples, which are overseen by members of the RSS and BJP. There are numerous issues on which the government must provide answers. I do not understand why they always evade accountability.”
