New Delhi, July 19: Bollywood actress Poonam Pandey participated in the ongoing protest organized by the Cockroach People’s Party (CJP) at Jantar Mantar on Monday. During the event, she urged the government to take immediate action regarding the paper leak and the issues faced by students. Speaking to the media, Poonam emphasized that her presence was solely to support the students and not driven by any political agenda.
While addressing the media at the protest site, Poonam stated, “I want to make one thing clear: this protest has always been about the children and remains so. I am here solely to support the students and fight for their rights. I do not know the ‘P’ of politics. I have come for those children who have faced harassment from the system and have tragically taken their own lives due to the paper leak. I stand for their justice.”
She also appealed to the media not to politicize this sensitive issue and to keep it focused on the students’ plight.
Recalling her struggles, Poonam shared, “My father was a security guard earning only 7,000 rupees. He worked night shifts. We often struggled to pay school fees because education is so expensive in our country that a poor family cannot afford it. Today, when children work so hard and their parents sacrifice to gather funds, only to find out that the paper has leaked, what must they be going through? In such circumstances, thoughts of suicide can arise in children’s minds. It is sad that we are debating trivial issues like Hindu-Muslim instead of addressing this core issue.”
Poonam criticized the government, stating, “In a democratic country, the public has the right to demand answers regarding their problems. I appeal to my government that we are citizens here, and it is our right to seek answers. The issues faced by students must be resolved, and instead of diverting attention, we should think about the families affected by this entire matter.”
It is noteworthy that the protest at Jantar Mantar is ongoing due to alleged irregularities and paper leak accusations related to the NEET examination. Protesters are demanding the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and reforms in the examination system. This movement is led by CJP founder Abhijit Deepke and his supporters.
