Kohli Shines in IPL Final with Record-Breaking Half-Century

Ahmedabad, May 31: In a thrilling IPL final, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) star batsman Virat Kohli showcased his prowess against Gujarat Titans (GT), scoring an unbeaten 75 runs off just 42 balls, including 3 sixes and 9 fours. Kohli reached his half-century in just 25 balls, marking the fastest fifty of his IPL career.

Previously, Kohli had achieved a half-century in 26 balls against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in 2018. He matched this feat against Delhi Capitals (DC) the same year and completed a half-century in 27 balls against Lucknow Super Giants in 2025.

With this performance, Kohli now ranks second for the fastest half-centuries in IPL finals based on balls faced. Alongside him, Rohit Sharma and Chris Gayle have also scored half-centuries in the same number of balls during IPL finals. The record for the fastest fifty is held jointly by Suresh Raina, David Warner, and Venkatesh Iyer, who achieved it in just 24 balls.

RCB clinched their second consecutive IPL title by defeating Gujarat Titans by 5 wickets. They had previously won their first trophy in 2025.

In the final, Gujarat Titans batted first after losing the toss, scoring 155 runs for the loss of 8 wickets. Washington Sundar led the charge with a solid 50 runs off 37 balls, while Nishant Sandhu contributed 20 runs. Jos Buttler added 19 runs to the total. Rasikh Salam Dar was the standout bowler for RCB, taking 3 wickets.

In response, RCB secured the title in just 18 overs. Kohli was the top scorer, with Venkatesh Iyer adding 32 runs off 16 balls and Tim David contributing 24 runs.
