
Beijing, June 21: The prestigious Golden Goblet Awards were announced on the evening of June 20 at the 28th Shanghai International Film Festival in China. This year, Chinese cinema shone brightly, securing several major honors. The Chinese film “Atlantic Rhapsody” won two significant awards, including Best Film and Best Cinematography. Meanwhile, the Belgian film “Illuminada” received the Jury Grand Prix.
A total of 49 films were nominated across five categories for the Golden Goblet Awards this year. These included the main competition, Asian New Talent, documentary, animation, and short film categories. The main competition, which garnered the most attention, featured 12 films, all of which had their world premieres at this festival.
Yassine Idrissi, director of the Moroccan film “Halima,” was awarded Best Director, while actress Hadija Amari from the same film was named Best Actress. The Best Screenplay award went to Rees Serlik for the Turkish-German co-production “Night of Blindness.” Additionally, the German-French co-production “Die Miserable Mater” received the Artistic Contribution Award.
Chinese actor Chang Songwen won the Golden Goblet Award for Best Actor for his performance in “Secret in the Box.” Furthermore, the film “Her First Test” claimed two awards in the Asian New Talent category, including Best Film and Best Actress. In the documentary category, “Notes Unheard” was awarded Best Documentary.
The Best Animation Film honor was awarded to France’s “Lucy Lost.” New films from Thailand, India, Bangladesh, and other Asian countries also achieved notable success in the Asian New Talent category.
The Shanghai International Film Festival is China’s only A-list international film festival. This year, special events such as the Golden Goblet Film Forum and the “Belt and Road” Film Week are also being held. The festival screenings will continue until June 28, showcasing over 420 Chinese and foreign films.
