China Hosts UN Human Rights Council Session in Geneva

Beijing, June 21: Recently, China’s United Nations (UN) delegation and its permanent mission in Geneva jointly organized a session of the 62nd UN Human Rights Council at the Palais des Nations in Geneva. The theme of the session was “Human Rights and Global Governance.” Participants emphasized the need for the international community to unite and collaborate in promoting and protecting human rights. They noted that China actively participates in global human rights cooperation to foster a more just, rational, and inclusive global human rights governance system.

Participants pointed out that geopolitical conflicts are emerging one after another, global development remains unbalanced, and the crisis of technological ethics is becoming increasingly severe. The global human rights protection mechanism is undergoing a challenging test. The international community must work together to promote and protect human rights, follow development paths that align with national circumstances and public needs, oppose imposing one’s model on others, and resist the politicization and misuse of human rights.

They also highlighted that China recently released a white paper titled “Building a More Just and Rational Global Governance System: China’s Thoughts, Initiatives, and Actions.” This document reaffirms China’s active commitment to promoting human rights through development, its participation in global human rights cooperation, and its efforts to establish a more just, rational, and inclusive global human rights governance system. China is dedicated to safeguarding women’s rights through development and ensuring that the benefits of modernization reach all ethnic groups equitably. It also respects and protects the differences in languages and scripts of various ethnic groups while promoting the national language.

Participants stressed that global governance initiatives have paved the way for improving the global human rights governance system. This reform should focus on enhancing implementation, quality, and efficiency while effectively promoting livelihoods and development. It must adhere to the principles of member states’ leadership, joint consultation, cooperation, and sharing, while strengthening the representation and voice of developing countries. Furthermore, it should enhance exchanges on human rights concepts and practices, assist developing countries in capacity building, and improve the effectiveness of global human rights governance.
