Kochi, October 2 (Daily Kiran) : Kerala’s Chief Minister VD Satheesan urged for significant changes in the state to meet the evolving needs of society during the 18th KP Hormis Memorial Lecture held in Kochi. He emphasized that Kerala must move beyond its traditionally recognized development achievements and create a new model for progress.
Speaking on the theme of “Reimagining Kerala,” Satheesan highlighted the necessity for transformation in various sectors, including education, healthcare, tourism, sports, welfare, elder care, and women’s safety. He pointed out that Kerala already possesses infrastructure and social facilities comparable to many Western nations.
The real challenge, he noted, lies in optimizing these resources to generate more opportunities for development. Satheesan stressed that the state’s geographical and demographic challenges should be converted into opportunities. He called for the creation of more avenues for youth while ensuring better care and support for senior citizens.
In line with this vision, he announced plans to host “Festival Kerala” in various parts of the country and eventually on an international scale. This festival aims to showcase Kerala’s heritage, art, culture, and traditions, enhancing its profile as a prime destination for tourism, investment, and entrepreneurship.
Satheesan stated that the festival should not merely be a cultural event but also serve as a platform to highlight Kerala’s capabilities and foster new opportunities in investment and tourism.
The lecture attracted over 1,500 attendees, including business leaders, academics, students, and senior bank officials. The event concluded with a dialogue session with the Chief Minister. Elias George, Chairman of Federal Bank, welcomed the guests, while KVS Manian, Managing Director and CEO, delivered the vote of thanks.
The KP Hormis Memorial Lecture is organized in memory of the founder of Federal Bank, KP Hormis, and the Federal Bank Hormis Memorial Foundation was established in 1996.
