Bengaluru, August 15: Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar extended his Independence Day greetings to the people of the state on Saturday. He reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring peace, harmony, and inclusive development across Karnataka.
After hoisting the national flag at his residence in Sadashivanagar, Bengaluru, the Chief Minister addressed reporters. He stated, “I have had the opportunity to hoist the national flag as both Chief Minister and public servant. I will strive to bring together all sections of society and work towards ensuring peace, harmony, and communal unity in the state in the coming days.”
While wishing the people of Karnataka and the nation, D.K. Shivakumar paid tribute to the leaders and freedom fighters whose sacrifices have helped preserve the unity, integrity, and democratic values of the nation. He urged citizens from all walks of life to participate in and celebrate Independence Day.
Deputy Chief Minister G. Parameshwara visited the Sri Siddaganga Mutt in Tumakuru, received blessings from Sri Siddaling Swamiji, and hoisted the national flag at the mutt premises.
In Mandya, Water Resources Minister and District In-Charge N. Cheluvarayaswamy called on citizens to remember the sacrifices of freedom fighters. He encouraged them to contribute to nation-building by maintaining harmony, brotherhood, equality, and social justice.
Addressing the 80th Independence Day celebrations after hoisting the national flag, the minister noted that India achieved freedom through the sacrifices of countless patriots, including Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, Bhagat Singh, and Chandrasekhar Azad.
He also acknowledged the contributions of Karnataka’s freedom fighters, such as Kittur Rani Chennamma, Sangolli Rayanna, Gangadhar Rao Deshpande, R.R. Diwakar, N.S. Hardikar, Aluru Venkata Rao, and S. Nijalingappa.
Cheluvarayaswamy emphasized that preserving the legacy of the freedom movement and educating future generations about the sacrifices and contributions of national and regional heroes is the responsibility of every citizen. He highlighted Mandya district’s role in the freedom struggle, referring to the Shivapura Flag Satyagraha as an unforgettable chapter in India’s independence movement.
While shedding light on the state government’s welfare initiatives, the minister stated that the Congress government prioritizes inclusive development, economic empowerment, social justice, and equality. To this end, the government has implemented several programs, including five guarantee schemes.
He mentioned that the implementation of schemes such as Shakti, Anna Bhagya, Gruha Jyoti, Gruha Lakshmi, and Yuva Nidhi in Mandya district exemplifies the government’s commitment to fulfilling its promises to the public.
