
Dubai, October 1 (Daily Kiran) : Indian Ambassador to the UAE, Deepak Mittal, has hailed Captain Smita Machhar as a “brave son of India” following a recent incident involving a serious attack during a Flydubai flight. During a visit to Dubai, Mittal met with Captain Smita‘s family on Thursday, assuring them of the Indian government’s full support.
In an interview with DD News, Mittal praised Captain Smita for his extraordinary courage, stating that he played a crucial role in saving lives and preventing a major disaster. “I met with the family, including his wife and brother, and assured them that the Indian government is committed to ensuring Captain Smita’s well-being and health,” he said.
The Indian mission is maintaining ongoing communication with both Captain Smita’s family and local authorities in the UAE. Mittal noted that local officials have also pledged their support to the injured pilot and his family.
“We are immensely proud of this brave son of India and will continue to provide him with our unwavering support,” Mittal emphasized.
According to the Indian Consulate in Dubai, both Ambassador Mittal and Consul General E. Vishnu Vardhan Reddy visited the family to provide updates on Captain Smita’s health and treatment. They assured the family that the Indian Embassy and Consulate are in constant contact with UAE authorities to ensure continued assistance.
Captain Smita was piloting Flydubai flight FZ1073 when he was seriously injured while thwarting an attack on the aircraft. A fellow pilot attacked him with a knife, causing the plane to descend rapidly. Despite his injuries, Captain Smita bravely confronted the assailant and opened the cockpit door, allowing passengers to assist in subduing the attacker.
Once the assailant was restrained, Captain Smita was stabilized on board, and the aircraft made an emergency landing in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia. He is currently hospitalized in Tabuk, receiving necessary medical treatment.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also reached out to Captain Smita’s family, commending the pilot’s bravery and assuring them that the Indian mission is providing all possible support.
