
Raigad, October 1 (Daily Kiran) : A tragic incident unfolded at Diveagar Beach in Raigad district, Maharashtra, on Thursday, October 1, 2026, when eight students drowned while swimming in the sea. The victims were part of a group of 30 to 40 students from Winners Academy in Alandi, Pune, who had visited the beach for a recreational outing.
While enjoying the beach, some students ventured into the water and lost their lives due to an inability to gauge the depth. Local authorities and police were notified immediately, prompting a search operation to locate the missing students.
Initially, the bodies of seven students were recovered, and the search continued for the eighth. Eventually, the operation concluded with the recovery of all eight victims. The deceased have been identified as Yash Kiran Wankhede, Soham Tukaram Bhandwalkar, Tanmay Dattatray Wahile, Kaustubh Sandip Dound, Kaivalya Vasanakar, Rajveer Wahile, Pranav Bansode, and Sumit Ahire.
In the aftermath of the tragedy, officials from the police, revenue department, and health services have been present at Diveagar Beach to assist with the situation. The local administration is currently undertaking necessary actions following the incident.
The joyous atmosphere of the students’ picnic has turned into mourning, as families have been informed of the tragic news, and further procedures are being carried out.
