New Delhi, August 4: Following the BJP’s defeat in the Datiya by-election in Madhya Pradesh and the Bankipur by-election in Bihar, senior party leader Jyotiraditya Scindia has emphasized the need for introspection within the party.
Scindia, a four-time MLA from Madhya Pradesh, shared a brief yet significant message on the social media platform X, stating, “It is time for introspection.” While she did not elaborate further, her post came in the wake of the BJP’s losses in both by-elections, attracting attention from various political circles.
According to the Election Commission of India, the Congress party retained the Datiya assembly seat, with their candidate Ghanshyam Singh defeating BJP’s Ashutosh Tiwari by a margin of 6,016 votes. Singh secured 66,757 votes (42.39%), while Tiwari garnered 60,741 votes (38.57%). Aam Aadmi Party’s Damodar Yadav finished third with 22,527 votes (14.30%).
Throughout the counting process, Congress maintained a steady lead. By the ninth round, Singh had established a lead of 9,519 votes. Although the BJP managed to narrow the gap in subsequent rounds, they could not surpass the Congress candidate, who ultimately retained the seat for the party.
In the Bankipur by-election in Bihar, Prashant Kishor, founder of the Jan Suraj party, achieved a decisive victory. This marked his new party’s first electoral win. After 31 rounds of counting, Kishor received 63,203 votes, easily defeating BJP candidate Neeraj Kumar Sinha, who received 44,250 votes. RJD’s Rekha Gupta came in third with 14,085 votes.
Kishor’s victory margin was 18,953 votes. However, as of the latest updates, the Election Commission had not officially announced the results.
Reacting to the Bankipur results, Bihar minister and senior BJP leader Vijay Kumar Sinha stated that the party respects the democratic decision and will accept the public mandate.
The defeats in these two by-elections have sparked political discussions regarding the BJP’s performance in both states, and Scindia’s call for introspection has intensified the debate over the party’s electoral strategy and organizational approach.
