Kiev, September 3: Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha has hailed India as a “global superpower,” expressing support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent call to move towards ending the ongoing war.
Sybiha made these remarks during a meeting with Indian Foreign Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar, marking the first dedicated bilateral visit by an Indian Foreign Minister to Ukraine.
In a post on the social media platform X, Sybiha stated, “I feel honored to welcome my Indian counterpart S. Jaishankar in Kiev. This historic visit occurs at a time when our cities, port infrastructure, and civil shipping face increasing Russian attacks. Our capital is under constant threat, and I appreciate my colleague’s courageous visit.”
He further added, “During our discussions, we addressed the need to restore freedom of navigation in the Black Sea and ensure global food security. India is a global power, and we welcome Prime Minister Modi’s call to transition from endless war to peace. Ukraine is ready for diplomacy.”
The Ukrainian Foreign Minister also mentioned that they discussed bilateral cooperation across various sectors, including infrastructure, pharmaceuticals, technological innovation, and digitization. They agreed to work towards convening their next intergovernmental commission meeting to transform significant potential into mutually beneficial projects.
Earlier, Prime Minister Modi reiterated India’s commitment to supporting all efforts to achieve peace in Ukraine during a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. He emphasized the necessity of moving towards peace for the betterment of humanity.
During a bilateral meeting with Putin at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Bishkek, Modi highlighted that both leaders had previously discussed the situation in Ukraine. Putin had also provided detailed insights into all aspects of the conflict during their last meeting.
