
Coimbatore, August 4: On the seventh day of the 16th Hockey India Junior Men’s National Championship 2026, teams from Karnataka, Jharkhand, and Madhya Pradesh achieved significant victories at the Coimbatore Hockey Ground. In Division ‘A’ matches, an exciting contest between Manipur Hockey and Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu Hockey ended in a draw.
The day began with Hockey Karnataka narrowly defeating Hockey Bengal 4-3. Suraj Kumar Sah gave Hockey Bengal an early lead in the 11th minute. However, just before halftime, Pradeep Mandal equalized for Hockey Karnataka in the 30th minute. In the 38th minute, Nitesh Sharma put Hockey Karnataka ahead, followed by another goal from Pradeep Mandal in the 51st minute.
Achchya MM also scored for Hockey Karnataka in the 49th minute. Hockey Bengal attempted a comeback with goals from Rasin Aind in the 58th minute and Abed Lugun in the 60th minute, but Hockey Karnataka maintained their lead and secured all three points.
In another intense Division ‘A’ match, Hockey Jharkhand triumphed over Delhi Hockey with a score of 4-3. Sabian Kiro opened the scoring for Hockey Jharkhand in the 4th minute, but Prabhjot Singh equalized for Delhi Hockey in the 40th minute. Kiro scored again in the 47th minute, while Sujit Kerketta (48th minute) and Ghurun Lohra (58th minute) extended Hockey Jharkhand’s lead. Delhi Hockey’s Nishant made a late effort with two goals in the 52nd and 60th minutes, but Hockey Jharkhand held on for the win.
The third match of the day saw an exhilarating contest between Manipur Hockey and Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu Hockey, which ended in a 4-4 draw. Ricky Tonjam and Amarjeet Singh Ningombam scored for Manipur Hockey in the 33rd and 37th minutes, respectively. Yumnkhum Bidyanand Singh added two more goals in the 47th and 52nd minutes. The opposition team fought back in the last quarter, with Mohammad Zaid (45′), Sumit Rajbhar (50′), Sami Rizwan (53′), and Himanshu Yadav (55′) each scoring to level the match.
In the final Division ‘A’ match of the day, Hockey Madhya Pradesh achieved a commanding 4-0 victory over the Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu. Rajveer Singh netted two goals in the 4th and 59th minutes, while Naveen Ekka (12′) and Sohil Ali (27′) contributed one goal each to strengthen the team’s score.
On the seventh day, other Division ‘A’ matches included Hockey Association of Odisha defeating Manipur Hockey 4-1. For Odisha, Lelson Minj scored twice in the 13th and 44th minutes, while Bilkan Oram (25′) and Mohan Krishna (41′) added one goal each. Manipur Hockey’s only goal came from Harish Singh Leitanthem in the 38th minute.
Meanwhile, the match between Hockey Haryana and Hockey Madhya Pradesh ended in a 2-2 draw. Sunil (15′) and Ankush (27′) scored for Hockey Haryana, while Aashir Adil Khan (30′) and Sohil Ali (48′) found the net for Hockey Madhya Pradesh.
