Ranchi, June 3: Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren has directed the swift operation of 300 sand ghats that have been auctioned in the state. During a review meeting on Wednesday with the Mining and Geology and Building Construction Departments, the Chief Minister stated that the operation of these ghats could generate approximately ₹3,000 crores in revenue for the state.
CM Soren emphasized the need for strict action against illegal mining, unauthorized transportation, overloading, and sand mafia activities. He remarked that the mineral wealth is a vital asset for the state, and its transparent utilization should lead to revenue growth while benefiting local communities.
He also instructed the prompt initiation of coal blocks that have been auctioned but are pending due to various permit issues. Additionally, he called for the resumption of production in closed mines operated by BCCL, CCL, and ECL, or to cancel leases and initiate re-auction processes. The Chief Minister directed the mapping of both operational and non-operational mining areas.
In assessing the status of the state’s seven gold mines, he stressed the importance of strengthening the gold mining sector. Currently, these mines produce about 20 kilograms of gold annually. He urged efforts to increase production, eliminate operational hurdles, and expedite the auction process for new potential gold mines.
CM Soren also called for reserving more mineral areas for the Jharkhand State Mineral Development Corporation (JSMDC) and Jharkhand Mining and Exploration Company (JMEC), prompt appointments for vacant positions, and the establishment of standard operating procedures (SOPs) for both organizations. He highlighted the effective use of the DMFT fund and the creation of employment opportunities in the mining sector.
The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Avinash Kumar, Development Commissioner Ajay Kumar Singh, and senior officials from the relevant departments.
