
New Delhi, June 3: Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his congratulations to D.K. Shivakumar on Wednesday for taking the oath as the Chief Minister of Karnataka. He assured full support from the central government for the state’s development.
In a post on the social media platform X, PM Modi wrote, “Heartfelt congratulations to D.K. Shivakumar on taking the oath as Chief Minister of Karnataka. Wishing him all the best for his tenure.”
He further stated that the central government would work alongside the state government for the welfare of the people of Karnataka and the state’s progress.
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh also congratulated Shivakumar on X, expressing, “Heartfelt congratulations to D.K. Shivakumar on taking the oath as Chief Minister. I wish him success in fulfilling the aspirations of the people of Karnataka.”
Earlier on Wednesday, D.K. Shivakumar took the oath as the 25th Chief Minister of Karnataka in a ceremony held at the Glass House in the Lok Bhavan complex in Bengaluru. Governor Thawarchand Gehlot administered the oath at 4:10 PM.
Amid chants from supporters, Shivakumar reached the stage and paid floral tributes to the spiritual leader Shri Veer Gangadhar Swamiji, also known as Ajjayya or Nonavinakere Ajja, before taking the oath of office.
Holding a copy of the Constitution, Shivakumar remembered his spiritual guru, Veer Gangadhar Ajja, during the oath-taking ceremony.
The event began with the national song ‘Vande Mataram,’ followed by the Karnataka State Police Band performing the national anthem. The state song was also played during the occasion.
The oath-taking ceremony was attended by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, and several senior Congress leaders.
Alongside Shivakumar, 13 ministers also took their oaths, marking the formal establishment of the new Karnataka government.
Senior leader from the Dalit community and former Home Minister G. Parameshwara took the oath as Deputy Chief Minister.
In the first phase of cabinet formation, former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s son and Congress MLC Yathindra Siddaramaiah, along with former Assembly Speaker U.T. Khader, were also included in the cabinet.
