Ahmedabad, March 8: Team India has claimed the T20 World Cup title for a record third time. In the final match held at the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium, India defeated New Zealand by 96 runs. Jasprit Bumrah emerged as the hero with the ball, taking four wickets and breaking Lasith Malinga’s record.

Bumrah delivered an outstanding bowling performance against New Zealand in the final. In his four-over spell, he conceded just 15 runs while claiming four crucial wickets. This performance marks one of the best spells in T20 World Cup knockout history. Additionally, Bumrah has now become the leading fast bowler in T20 World Cup history, surpassing Malinga. He has taken a total of 40 wickets in T20 World Cups, while Malinga had 38. In the final, Bumrah dismissed Rachin Ravindra, Mitchell Santner, James Neesham, and Matt Henry.

Chasing a target of 256 runs set by India, New Zealand was bowled out for 159. Tim Seifert was the top scorer for New Zealand with 52 runs, while Mitchell Santner contributed 43 runs. However, the rest of the Kiwi batsmen struggled against the Indian bowlers. Alongside Bumrah, Axar Patel also excelled, taking three wickets for just 27 runs, while Varun Chakravarthy and Hardik Pandya each claimed one wicket.

Earlier, after losing the toss, India scored 255 runs for the loss of five wickets in their 20 overs, marking the highest score in a T20 World Cup knockout match. Sanju Samson continued his impressive form, scoring 89 runs off 46 balls, marking his third consecutive half-century. Abhishek Sharma also made a significant impact, scoring 52 runs off just 21 balls. Ishan Kishan showcased his aggressive batting style, scoring 54 runs off 25 balls at a strike rate of 216. In the final overs, Shivam Dube contributed an unbeaten 26 runs off eight balls. With this victory, India becomes the first nation to win the T20 World Cup on home soil, making history by winning the tournament for the second consecutive time.
