New York, April 15: Mark Jankowski netted the decisive goal in the third period, leading the Carolina Hurricanes to a 2-1 victory against the New York Islanders on Tuesday night.

Nikolaj Ehlers also contributed a goal for Carolina, while goaltender Brandon Bussi made 28 saves. The Hurricanes concluded their regular season with four wins in their last five games, finishing at the top of the Eastern Conference.

Bo Horvat scored for New York, with David Rittich stopping 19 shots. This loss marked the Islanders’ seventh defeat in their last eight games.

Ehlers opened the scoring early in the first period at 3:05, wrapping up his first season in Carolina with a career-high 71 points, including 26 goals and 45 assists. Felix Unger Sorum provided an assist during his NHL debut.

Horvat equalized late in the second period, converting a pass from Mathew Barzal with under seven minutes remaining. Victor Eklund, also making his NHL debut, assisted on the goal.

Pyotr Kochetkov was expected to start and participated in warmups but was unavailable due to a roster issue. He has been activated from injured reserve and will be eligible for the playoffs, as confirmed by the team. Emergency backup goaltender Thomas Sullivan served as Carolina’s backup for this match.
