Smriti Irani Criticizes TMCs Stance on Immigrants Ahead of Bengal Elections

Kolkata, April 15: BJP leader and former Union Minister Smriti Irani launched a strong attack on the Trinamool Congress (TMC) in light of the upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections in 2026.

In an interview with a news agency, Irani stated, “The Constitution of India has laid out a clear process for elections, yet TMC goons repeatedly undermine this system. The way TMC mocks this process is an insult to the dignity of the Election Commission. Every Indian citizen and voter should oppose this and raise their voice against the TMC government.”

Irani praised the Election Commission, saying, “BJP workers and leaders have observed the cleaning of the voter list through Special Intensive Review (SIR) across the country, especially in West Bengal. The Election Commission has carried out this work in a fearless and transparent manner. Their sole resolve is to ensure that no infiltrator remains on the voter list and that no voter’s name is duplicated.”

She questioned, “Isn’t this resolve the resolve of every Indian? Then why does TMC consider Indian citizens as outsiders and infiltrators as their own?”

Irani also raised concerns about TMC’s history, stating, “Wherever there is respect for women, TMC will oppose it. Every citizen in West Bengal, regardless of religion, caste, or community, has witnessed how the TMC government has created an atmosphere of fear and corruption.”

The BJP leader further claimed that the TMC government has completely neglected women’s safety, law and order, and development in the state. She asserted that BJP workers are humbly appealing to voters to give BJP a chance by removing TMC this time.

It is noteworthy that the West Bengal Assembly elections will take place in two phases for a total of 294 seats. Voting for the first phase will occur on April 23 for 152 seats, while the second phase will take place on April 29 for 142 seats. The counting of votes will be conducted on May 4.
