Mumbai, April 15: In Yamunanagar, Haryana, women organized a scooter rally on Wednesday to support the Women’s Reservation Bill and express gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
A large number of women participated, riding their scooters through key areas of the city. The event showcased a clear sense of political awareness and empowerment among the participants.
They stated that this initiative is a significant step towards ensuring greater participation of women in the country’s political system.
Yamunanagar’s Mayor, Suman Bahmani, noted the enthusiasm among women during the rally. She said, “The scooter rally witnessed tremendous excitement, with a large turnout of women. This event was organized to thank the Prime Minister for the ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam’.”
Bahmani described this legislation as a crucial milestone that strengthens women’s roles in governance and policymaking. Currently, women’s participation in the Lok Sabha is about 14 percent, while the proposed 33 percent reservation would bring substantial change.
She emphasized, “In today’s time, this is very important, especially as the Prime Minister continuously works towards women’s empowerment through various schemes and initiatives. Greater participation of women in policymaking will make governance more effective and inclusive.”
BJP leader Rozi Malik Anand remarked that the significant involvement of women in a small town like Yamunanagar indicates broad support for the bill. Women have long awaited this step, signaling the start of a positive era for gender equality. This bill has been introduced in Parliament multiple times before but has not progressed.
She also questioned why such an important reform has taken so long to implement.
Similar support was seen in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, where the BJP organized a ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Bike Rally.’ Many women and party workers participated, rallying through the city’s main areas.
The ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam’ reserves one-third of the seats for women in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies. It is considered a historic reform aimed at increasing women’s participation and empowerment in Indian politics.
