Jammu Police Bust Drone Drug and Weapon Smuggling Operation, Two Arrested

Jammu, October 6 (Daily Kiran) : Jammu and Kashmir police apprehended two suspects on Tuesday in connection with a drone operation involving the smuggling of drugs and weapons in Jammu district. The arrests took place during an investigation into the suspected aerial drop of contraband across the international border.

Authorities reported that the arrests occurred in the Arnia sector, where the two individuals were found in possession of a Beretta pistol manufactured in Italy, along with two magazines, four cartridges, 500 grams of heroin, and 500 grams of opium.

Following their interrogation, the suspects revealed that they had received two consignments dropped by a drone. An FIR has been registered under relevant sections of the law, and further investigations are ongoing.

The use of drones for smuggling goods across the border has emerged as a significant security challenge in Jammu and Kashmir. Terrorist organizations and smuggling rings are increasingly employing drones to transport weapons, explosives, and narcotics.

In July, following sightings of suspected Pakistani drones near the international border and the Line of Control, the army and Jammu and Kashmir police conducted joint search operations in Nandpur, Samba, and Tarkundi-Saj in Rajouri.

Earlier this year, on March 1, several quadcopters and a Pakistani drone crossed into the Dighwar and Poonch sectors before retreating, prompting the army to implement counter-drone measures.

On January 10, a joint team from the Border Security Force and the Special Operations Group of Jammu and Kashmir police discovered a packet of weapons wrapped in yellow tape near a drain in Palura village, suspected to have been dropped by a drone from across the border.

Reports of drone intrusions have surged in Poonch, Rajouri, and Samba, leading to heightened security and the implementation of counter-drone strategies. The Ministry of Defence noted that in 2025, there were 791 incidents of drone intrusions along India’s western border, prompting security forces to deploy jammers and spoofers to counter aerial threats.

Security agencies have also highlighted the use of drones for narco-financing, dropping heroin, opium, and synthetic drugs. These drones have been known to deliver firearms, grenades, improvised explosive devices (IEDs), magnetic bombs, and AK-47 ammunition. Such activities have been frequently reported in areas like Arnia, Samba, Kathua, Akhnoor, Rajouri, and Poonch.
