
Udhampur, October 6 (Daily Kiran) : The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a fireman in Udhampur, Jammu and Kashmir, during an operation targeting bribery. This arrest occurred at the office of the Assistant Director of Fire and Emergency Services.
The CBI acted on a complaint alleging that the fireman demanded a bribe of ₹40,000 to process and issue a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for a hotel in Katra. After negotiations, the accused agreed to accept ₹15,000 from the complainant.
On Tuesday, CBI officials set up a sting operation, catching the fireman red-handed as he solicited and accepted the bribe of ₹15,000. Investigations and further actions related to this case are ongoing.
In a separate incident, a CBI court in Jaipur, Rajasthan, sentenced former Bank of Maharashtra branch manager Ram Bharos Meena to seven years of rigorous imprisonment for his role in a ₹3.61 crore bank fraud case. The court also imposed a fine of ₹2,85,000 on him. Another individual, Makhan Lal Meena, was found guilty in the same case and received a three-year sentence along with a ₹25,000 fine.
The CBI registered this bank fraud case based on a written complaint filed by the zonal office of the Bank of Maharashtra on June 3, 2016. The complaint accused the former branch manager of misusing his position to cause financial losses to the bank through fraud and forgery.
