Chandigarh, October 6 (Daily Kiran) : Authorities in Punjab have achieved a significant breakthrough in their fight against organized crime. The Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF), in collaboration with the Ludhiana Police Commissionerate, arrested two associates linked to a gangster network during a coordinated operation.
The Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) shared details of the operation on the social media platform X. The post highlighted, “In a major success, the AGTF has apprehended two associates connected to a gangster network in a joint operation with the Ludhiana Police Commissionerate. A Glock 9mm pistol and 20 live cartridges were recovered from them.”
Initial investigations revealed that the suspects were in contact with handlers based abroad and had been tasked with carrying out extortion-related shootings in the Chandigarh and Mohali areas. The timely action by the police thwarted a significant shooting plan.
The DGP’s post further elaborated, “Preliminary investigations indicate that the accused were in touch with handlers overseas, who assigned them the task of executing shootings in the Chandigarh-Mohali region for extortion purposes. Their arrest has successfully disrupted this plan.”
An FIR has been registered at the PS Division No. 8 in Ludhiana, and further investigations are underway. The police are now working to gather intelligence on the foreign handlers and their network.
Punjab Police reiterated its commitment to dismantling gangster networks, preventing organized crime, and maintaining peace and security throughout the state. Notably, incidents of extortion and shootings have surged in Punjab in recent months, often linked to gangsters operating from abroad. The AGTF’s operation is seen as a crucial step in addressing these rising threats, and police continue to monitor such networks closely while conducting multiple large-scale operations.
