Jaipur Audi Crash Kills One, Injures 12 Pedestrians

Jaipur witnessed a tragic accident when a speeding Audi car struck pedestrians, resulting in one death and 12 injuries. The incident occurred on Friday night, according to police reports issued on Saturday.

The car reportedly lost control, first hitting the road divider before crashing into roadside shops and food stalls for approximately 30 metres, eventually stopping after colliding with a tree. Several vehicles were also damaged in the collision. The impact was so severe that the Audi was completely destroyed.

Details of the Incident and Victims

The accident involved 13 pedestrians who were immediately taken to nearby hospitals for treatment. Four of the injured were initially in critical condition and were referred to Sawai Mansingh (SMS) Hospital for specialized care. Among the injured, one identified as Ramesh Barwa from Bhilwara succumbed to his injuries during treatment.

Police Action and Investigation

Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Rajarshi Verma stated that the Audi was travelling at high speed from Vande Mataram Circle towards Dharwas Circle. The driver, identified as Dinesh Ranwan, along with three other passengers, was reportedly under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. One individual has been arrested, while the other three fled the scene but have been identified and are expected to be apprehended soon. The vehicle has been seized as police continue their investigation.

The police are examining whether overspeeding was the primary cause and are also probing the possibility of drunk driving. Authorities are conducting a thorough investigation into all circumstances surrounding the crash.

Government Response and Support for Victims

RAJASTHAN Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma expressed grief over the incident and directed officials to ensure proper medical treatment for the injured. Deputy Chief Minister Premchand Barwa and Health Minister Gajendra Singh Khimsar visited hospitals to check on the condition of those hurt in the accident.

Deputy Chief Minister Barwa confirmed the ongoing investigation and emphasized the focus on the driver’s speed and possible intoxication. Health Minister Khimsar conveyed that three hospitals are currently treating the injured and assured that authorities are looking into the ownership and control of the vehicle involved in the accident.

This unfortunate event has drawn significant attention to road safety and the dangers of reckless driving in Jaipur.
