Jaipur, June 8: Ahead of a significant demolition campaign scheduled for Monday, the district administration has temporarily suspended internet services in several areas of Jaipur, Rajasthan.
This precautionary measure aims to maintain law and order as the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) plans to widen a road parallel to the railway line from the Nandpuri underpass to its approved width of 80 feet.
Officials have expressed concerns that rumors, misinformation, or incendiary content could spread through social media and internet platforms, potentially disrupting public order. Consequently, Jaipur Divisional Commissioner V. Sarvan Kumar has issued this directive.
Under this order, mobile internet services, including 2G, 3G, 4G, and 5G, will be suspended from midnight Sunday to midnight Monday in designated areas. This shutdown will affect not only mobile data services but also bulk SMS and internet-based messaging platforms. Access to social media applications like WhatsApp, Facebook, and X will also be restricted during this period.
Essential government and emergency services may be exempt from these regulations. The suspension will be enforced in the jurisdiction of the Jaipur Police Commissionerate and surrounding districts.
In Jaipur North, affected police station areas include Ramganj, Galta Gate, Manak Chowk, Subhash Chowk, Amer, Brahmpuri, Nahargarh, Kotwali, Jalupura, Sanjay Circle, Shastri Nagar, Bhatta Basti, Vidyadhar Nagar, and Jaisinghpura Khor. In Jaipur East, internet services will be suspended in police station areas such as Bassi, Kanota, Tunga, Adarsh Nagar, Transport Nagar, Jawahar Nagar, Jamdoli, SMS Hospital, Gandhi Nagar, Lalkothi, Motidungri, Airport, Malviya Nagar, Jawahar Circle, Bajaj Nagar, Kho-Nagorian, Sanganer, Pratap Nagar, Ramnagar, and Malpura Gate.
Additional police forces have been deployed in sensitive areas, and cyber teams are monitoring social media activities.
Authorities have warned that strict action will be taken against anyone spreading rumors, misinformation, or content that disrupts public order. The administration has urged citizens to maintain peace and communal harmony, avoid sharing unverified information, and adhere to official directives. Legal action will be pursued against violators.
As part of the road widening project, the JDA plans to remove five religious structures encroaching on the road. To facilitate this operation, additional police forces from Jaipur, Kota, and Bharatpur ranges have been summoned. Security has also been heightened in sensitive areas, such as the ‘Walled City.’
According to Anand Sharma, Deputy Inspector General of the JDA’s Vigilance Branch, 134 encroachments were removed from this route on May 22. Following that action, management committees and related individuals associated with the affected religious structures were given time to relocate them voluntarily.
With the deadline now expired, the administration will proceed with the removal. Officials noted that while the approved width of the road is 80 feet according to revenue records, encroachments have reduced its actual width to only 25-30 feet in many areas.
This approximately 1.5-kilometer stretch connects the Nandpuri underpass to Jagatpura and passes through six major residential areas. The administration claims that widening the road will significantly alleviate traffic congestion on Hare Krishna Marg and improve connectivity between Nandpuri and Jagatpura.
Residents of over 50 nearby colonies, including Malviya Nagar and other rapidly developing residential areas, are expected to benefit from this project.
