Investigation Launched into Mysterious Death of Actor Rahul Arunoday Banerjee

Kolkata, June 15: The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of West Bengal police has taken over the investigation into the mysterious death of renowned Bengali actor Rahul Arunoday Banerjee, which occurred in March at Talasari Beach in Odisha. This decision follows directives from Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari.

The talented 42-year-old actor tragically lost his life on March 29 while shooting for the television series “Bhole Baba Paar Karega.” Reports indicate that he entered the sea during filming and was swept away by sudden tidal waves. Technicians present at the scene managed to pull him from the water.

Initial investigations attributed his death to drowning. He was rushed to a hospital in Digha, located in East Midnapore, where doctors pronounced him dead. According to reports, he had already passed away before arriving at the hospital.

Currently, the Odisha police’s Special Investigation Team (SIT) is examining all aspects related to Banerjee’s death. The Chief Minister stated that a family member of the late actor filed a complaint regarding an unnatural death, prompting him to instruct the Superintendent of Police (SP) in East Midnapore to propose a CID investigation to the state’s Director General of Police (DGP).

The mysterious death of Rahul Arunoday Banerjee has caused significant unrest in Bengal’s film and television industry. Colleagues and technicians who worked with him have demanded a fair and thorough investigation, even staging a strike for several days.

Although the artists have since ended their strike, they have decided not to work with the production company involved in the shooting during Banerjee’s death. This company, led by Leena Gangopadhyay, is closely associated with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and previously held the position of Chairperson of the West Bengal Women’s Commission. Following the controversy surrounding the actor’s death, she resigned from her position.

The Chief Minister emphasized that the decision to conduct a CID investigation was made in response to the demands for a fair inquiry from artists and those in the film industry. He believes this will help uncover the truth behind the incident.

According to the post-mortem report, Banerjee’s lungs and airways were filled with a significant amount of saltwater and sand due to prolonged submersion, leading to asphyxiation and ultimately his death.
