Mumbai, June 26: Bollywood actress Neelam Kothari recently reflected on her cherished memories from the film industry during the 80s and 90s in her YouTube vlog. She expressed that, despite the lack of modern amenities during filming, the simplicity and beauty of that era remain her favorite aspects.
Neelam shared that film sets in the 80s and 90s did not have conveniences like air conditioning or vanity vans. Nevertheless, working during that time had its own unique joy.
She noted, “When I arrived on set for shooting, there were no ACs or even vanity vans. The moment I got there, I would start sweating. It took an hour for makeup and another hour for hairstyling, but by the time I reached the set, everything would be a mess.”
When asked whether she preferred today’s sets or those from the 80s and 90s, Neelam chose the older era without hesitation. “The simplicity, warmth, and beauty of that time were truly special, and I miss it dearly,” she said.
Neelam also recounted her experiences working with co-star Govinda, particularly during song shoots, where a friendly competition would ensue between them.
She remarked, “Whenever I worked with Govinda on songs, it felt like a contest to see who could perform the dance steps better. Our rhythm and style resonated well with the audience.”
She highlighted her most famous song, “Aap Ke Aajane Se,” stating, “This is my biggest hit. It became so iconic and remains popular among people even today. I sincerely thank the audience for making it such a massive success.”
It’s worth noting that “Aap Ke Aajane Se” is a song from the 1987 film “Khudgarz,” directed by Rakesh Roshan. This lively dance number, featuring Govinda and Neelam, is considered one of the most memorable songs of that era and continues to be a favorite.
Neelam Kothari began her film career in 1984 with the movie “Jawani.” She went on to star in several successful films during the 80s and 90s, including “Love 86,” “Ilzaam,” “Khudgarz,” “Hatya,” “Takatwar,” “Sindoor,” “Paap Ki Duniya,” and “Gharana.”
