Mumbai, June 27: Actress Deepika Chikhlia, renowned for her portrayal of Sita in Ramanand Sagar’s iconic television series “Ramayana,” expressed her gratitude for the enduring recognition she receives in this role, more than three decades later. She considers it her greatest blessing.
Chikhlia shared that the love and remembrance from audiences make her feel proud and overwhelmed. Currently, she is busy promoting her upcoming film “Tera Mera Nata.” In a recent interview, she discussed the audience’s deep connection to the epic “Ramayana.”
She stated that the teachings and messages of the “Ramayana” remain relevant, which is why people from every generation continue to connect with it profoundly. Reflecting on being remembered as Sita, she remarked, “It is my fortune to have had the opportunity to play such a character. People have given me immense love and acceptance. The ‘Ramayana’ is a story that can be retold in new ways in every era. It has been adapted before and will continue to be, as its foundation is built on faith and values.”
On why the “Ramayana” remains significant today, she noted, “The ‘Ramayana’ is considered one of the best screenplays in the world. Each character embodies a lesson. Ram was the ideal son, husband, and brother. Sita was the ideal wife, daughter-in-law, and daughter. Lakshman symbolized duty and dedication. This story is filled with positivity, which is why people want to watch and understand it repeatedly.”
The beloved TV show featured Arun Govil as Lord Ram, Sunil Lahri as Lakshman, Arvind Trivedi as Ravan, Dara Singh as Hanuman, and Deepika Chikhlia as Mother Sita. The “Ramayana,” a superhit show of the 1980s, was revered by fans, who regarded the actors as deities and prayed to them as if they were the divine figures themselves.
Deepika will soon appear in “Tera Mera Nata,” where she stars alongside Suraj. The film is based on emotional relationships and is being promoted as a touching family drama.
