New Delhi, June 19: The Indian women’s cricket team has suffered a significant blow. Star spinner Shreyanka Patil has been ruled out of the 2026 Women’s T20 World Cup due to an ankle injury. She sustained this injury during a match against the Netherlands on Wednesday.
Shreyanka had to be carried off the field on a stretcher after twisting her ankle severely while bowling the last over of the powerplay. Unfortunately, she was unable to return to the match after leaving the ground. According to a report from ‘Cricbuzz’, 24-year-old leg-spinner Prema Rawat has been named as Shreyanka’s replacement in the squad.
Prema has played six matches for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Women’s Premier League over the past two seasons, taking three wickets. In domestic cricket, she played a crucial role in helping Uttarakhand win the Senior Championship. The Indian team has performed remarkably well in the T20 World Cup so far. In their opening match, they defeated Pakistan by 64 runs, followed by a 95-run victory over the Netherlands.
In their match against the Netherlands, India batted first, scoring 209 runs for the loss of five wickets in 20 overs. Smriti Mandhana delivered an outstanding performance, scoring 74 runs off 47 balls, while Shafali Verma contributed 55 runs from 38 balls. In bowling, Sri Charani took four wickets for just 19 runs, and Shafali Verma claimed three wickets. The Indian team will face South Africa in their next match on Sunday.
