London, August 28: The second day of the Lords Test saw Pakistan in a precarious position, as they were bowled out for just 110 runs in their first innings. This has given England a substantial lead of 180 runs.
Pakistan’s batting lineup struggled significantly, collapsing in just 37.2 overs. Only two batsmen managed to reach double figures. Opener Azaan Awais was the top scorer with 46 runs off 102 balls. Saud Shakeel contributed 16 runs. Other notable dismissals included Shan Masood for 1, Abdullah Shafique for 5, Babar Azam for 8, and Mohammad Rizwan for 7. Imam-ul-Haq did not bat due to injury, leaving Shan to open alongside Awais.
For England, fast bowler Ollie Robinson was exceptional, taking 4 wickets for just 11 runs in 13 overs. Jofra Archer claimed 3 wickets for 26 runs in 11.2 overs, while Josh Tong took 2 wickets for 27 runs in 6 overs. Their lethal bowling performance was crucial in establishing England’s significant lead.
England resumed the second day at 248 runs with 9 wickets down. Gus Atkinson and Josh Tong added 47 runs for the 10th wicket, bringing the team’s total to 290. Atkinson scored 45 runs off 46 balls before being dismissed, while Tong remained not out at 30 runs from 48 balls.
After losing the toss and batting first, England had a shaky start, losing 4 wickets for just 77 runs. It seemed they might struggle to reach 200. However, Jordan Cox, batting at number three, stabilized the innings with a score of 55, while wicketkeeper Jamie Smith, batting at number seven, contributed 61 runs.
For Pakistan, fast bowler Mohammad Abbas was the standout performer, taking 4 wickets for 73 runs in 20 overs. Mohammad Ali also impressed, securing 3 wickets for 86 runs in 22 overs. Khurram Shehzad and Ali Usman each claimed 1 wicket.
