South Africa Stages Dramatic Comeback Against Czech Republic in FIFA World Cup Match

Atlanta, June 19: In an exciting FIFA World Cup 2026 match, South Africa managed to level the score against the Czech Republic, ending the game in a 1-1 draw. The match took place at Atlanta Stadium, marking South Africa’s first point in this World Cup after trailing by one goal.

The Czech Republic took an early lead in the sixth minute with a goal from Michal Kadlec. However, South Africa’s Teboho Mokwena equalized with a penalty in the 83rd minute. Both teams shared the points, leaving them with one point each after two matches in the tournament.

Czech Republic coach Miroslav Koubek had hoped for a strong start following their loss to South Korea. The team delivered, scoring just six minutes into the match. Adam Halousek delivered a cross from the right, which Alexander Sörloth cleverly set up for Kadlec, who converted it past South Africa’s Ronwen Williams.

Kadlec’s goal was the fastest in this World Cup, occurring just five minutes and eight seconds into the game. Felix Nmecha had previously taken eight seconds longer to score for Germany against Curaçao. Both teams had several opportunities to score again, but the first half ended with the Czech Republic leading 1-0.

South Africa’s manager Hugo Broos introduced 21-year-old Relebohile Mofokeng in the second half, showcasing his talent. However, the Czech Republic’s defense, led by the impressive Ladislav Krejčí, seemed to be on track for victory. In a turning point, a handball by Pavel Sulk resulted in a penalty for South Africa, which Mokwena successfully converted, bringing the score to 1-1.

In Group A, Mexico and South Korea lead with three points each, with Mexico ahead on goal difference.
