Mumbai, March 17: The Indian ship ‘Nanda Devi,’ carrying LPG from Qatar, is expected to arrive at Kandla Port in Gujarat on Tuesday after passing through the Strait of Hormuz. Just a day earlier, the ship ‘Shivalik’ successfully docked at Mundra Port with approximately 45,000 to 46,000 tons of LPG. This safe arrival is anticipated to ease concerns regarding fuel transportation through this sensitive maritime route.
Previously, Rajesh Kumar Sinha, Special Secretary of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, mentioned during an inter-ministerial briefing that after crossing the Hormuz Strait, the tanker successfully entered open waters. He noted that two Indian LPG ships, ‘Shivalik’ and ‘Nanda Devi,’ are bringing a total of about 92,700 metric tons of LPG to India. Both vessels are owned by the government-operated Shipping Corporation of India. Sinha also confirmed that all Indian sailors working in the Persian Gulf region are safe, with no reports of any unpleasant incidents.
According to government data, there were 22 Indian ships in the Persian Gulf region west of the Hormuz Strait, carrying a total of 611 sailors. While ‘Nanda Devi’ is set to reach Kandla Port, another ship, ‘Jag Ladki,’ is on its way to Mundra Port, transporting around 81,000 tons of crude oil. All crew members aboard these ships are reported to be safe.
It is noteworthy that the Hormuz Strait is one of the world’s most crucial maritime routes, through which approximately 20 percent of global oil and gas exports pass. Due to ongoing tensions in the region, officials are closely monitoring ship movements and ensuring the safety of Indian vessels and their crews operating in the area.
The ministry previously stated, “Major ports across the country are closely monitoring ship movements and cargo operations, providing assistance to shipping lines and freight stakeholders, including concessions on anchorage, freight, and storage fees.”
