Indian Railways Recruits 43,781 Candidates Under Fast-Track Technology-Driven Process

New Delhi, June 12: Indian Railways has successfully recruited 43,781 candidates during the financial year 2025-26, filling 47,084 vacancies across six major categories. This recruitment reflects the ongoing acceleration in the hiring process.

The new hires include 18,799 assistant locomotive pilots, 14,298 technicians, 452 sub-inspectors, 4,208 constables, 7,951 junior engineers (JE)/depot material superintendents/chemical and metallurgical assistants, and 1,376 positions in paramedical categories.

These figures were presented by Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw during a high-level review meeting with senior officials of Indian Railways, focusing on the Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) selection process.

The Minister emphasized the need for continuous improvement in the recruitment system through the use of technology, expedited processes, and increased accountability.

According to the statement, Indian Railways is determined to strengthen its workforce through ongoing and timely recruitment initiatives. The organization aims to attract and onboard talented individuals across various categories while ensuring transparency, efficiency, and the use of advanced technology in the recruitment process.

The recruitment process conducted by the Railway Recruitment Boards is inherently complex and extensive, involving examinations held across multiple cities and centers nationwide. To accommodate the large number of candidates, these computer-based tests are conducted in multiple shifts and are accessible in 15 languages to ensure inclusivity for candidates from diverse linguistic backgrounds. This multi-city, multi-shift, and multilingual framework necessitates extensive coordination and robust technical systems to ensure fairness, standardization, and transparency throughout the recruitment process.

The Union Minister noted that the annual recruitment calendar, along with quarterly notifications of vacancies, has been well-received by candidates. He stated that this calendar-based recruitment system has enabled candidates to plan their preparation more effectively, thereby enhancing predictability in the recruitment process.
