Gandhinagar, September 13 (Daily Kiran) : India is set to host the World Circular Economy Forum (WCEF) 2026 for the first time in South Asia. This prestigious global event will take place from September 15 to 18, 2026, in Gandhinagar, Gujarat. The theme for this year’s forum is “Circular Economy: Transition for People and Prosperity,” aiming to promote sustainable development and the efficient use of resources.
An official statement released on Sunday highlighted that the forum will serve as a global platform for partnerships across various sectors, focusing on circular finance and innovation. The inauguration will be led by Bhupender Yadav, the Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, along with Bhupendra Patel, the Chief Minister of Gujarat. Many distinguished guests, both national and international, are expected to attend.
The event anticipates participation from over 2,000 representatives from more than 65 countries, including industry leaders, entrepreneurs, startup founders, researchers, policymakers, educators, investors, and experts in social change.
The forum aims to showcase India’s efforts in promoting a circular economy on a global stage while strengthening international cooperation. It will emphasize increasing engagement with Global South countries, encouraging circular finance, attracting private investments, and fostering partnerships across different sectors.
On September 15 and 16, the main program will feature four plenary sessions and 16 thematic parallel sessions. Topics for discussion will include artificial intelligence (AI), job creation, energy production, financial solutions, good governance, sustainable products, industrial innovation, the startup ecosystem, and youth leadership.
According to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, the circular economy extends beyond environmental protection. It also creates new economic opportunities, job prospects, and sustainable industrial development.
The forum will also host an international exhibition featuring over 125 national and international exhibitors. This exhibition will showcase practical solutions and investment-ready innovations related to the circular economy developed by startups, industries, and technical institutions. It aims to connect industries and investors with new technologies and business opportunities.
During the event, a meeting of the Sustainable Consumption and Production Patterns (10 YFP) board will also take place in Gandhinagar. Recently, India took on the co-chair role for this board, reflecting the country’s growing global role in promoting sustainable production and consumption.
Additionally, on September 17 and 18, around 80 accelerator sessions will be conducted online, in hybrid formats, and in person by partner organizations worldwide. These sessions will cover discussions on innovation, investment, and policy.
