Mumbai, October 6 (Daily Kiran) : The Indian stock market opened positively on October 6, 2026, buoyed by strong global signals. By 9:27 AM, the Sensex had risen by 129 points, or 0.18%, reaching 72,512, while the Nifty gained 43 points, or 0.19%, to settle at 22,599.
In early trading, private banking stocks saw notable buying interest, with the Nifty Private Bank emerging as a top gainer, up nearly 1%. Other sectors, including Nifty Financial Services, Nifty Metal, Nifty FMCG, Nifty Consumer Durables, Nifty Energy, Nifty Realty, Nifty Commodities, Nifty Oil & Gas, Nifty India Defense, and Nifty Consumption also traded in the green.
Conversely, sectors such as Nifty Healthcare, Nifty IT, Nifty Auto, Nifty Pharma, Nifty PSU Bank, and Nifty Services were in the red.
Both midcap and small-cap indices also showed positive momentum. The Nifty Smallcap 100 Index climbed by 117 points, or 0.62%, to 19,267, while the Nifty Midcap 100 Index rose by 212 points, or 0.46%, to 59,959.
Top gainers in the Sensex pack included Trent, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Axis Bank, Hindustan Unilever, Indigo, Bajaj Finserv, Tata Steel, HDFC Bank, NTPC, HCL Tech, and L&T. In contrast, losers included Tech Mahindra, M&M, Infosys, Sun Pharma, ITC, Bharti Airtel, SBI, Asian Paints, UltraTech Cement, TCS, and Maruti Suzuki.
Experts noted that bulls are struggling to maintain momentum beyond certain levels, especially with U.S. 10-year bond yields hovering around 5.3%. This situation may lead to continued selling by foreign institutional investors (FIIs), creating a “sell on rally” market sentiment. Despite attractive valuations, FIIs are expected to persist with the sale of large-cap stocks, while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) continue to buy due to steady fund inflows.
Most Asian markets were also on the rise, with Tokyo, Hong Kong, Bangkok, and Jakarta showing gains. The U.S. stock market closed positively on Monday, with the Dow Jones up by 0.18% and the Nasdaq increasing by 1.05%.
