India Secures Eight Medals at Asian Junior Individual Squash Championship in China

New Delhi, May 22: India has secured eight medals at the 33rd Asian Junior Individual Squash Championship held in Panzhihua, China. Led by Shiven Agarwal, Indian players have made it to the semifinals across various categories.

Shiven, seeded 5/8, defeated Singapore’s Rehan Singh in straight games during the boys’ under-17 quarterfinals. He will face fellow Indian trainee Lokesh Subramani in the semifinals, who triumphed over his compatriot Hrithan Shah in the quarterfinals.

Aryaveer Diwan, last year’s boys’ under-17 champion, has advanced to the under-19 semifinals after a tough four-game victory against Yusha Nafees, another Indian player.

In the girls’ categories, Anika Dubey has reached the under-17 semifinals, while Shanaya Parsaramputia and Divyanshi Jain have made it to the under-23 semifinals. Among the boys, Abhyuday Arora and Amarya Bajaj have secured spots in the under-23 semifinals.

Earlier, India’s Hrithan Shah defeated Malaysia’s top seed Muhammad Haikal Hazim bin Sayaruddin in the boys’ under-17 pre-quarterfinals with a score of 11-13, 11-5, 11-4, 11-7.

Joining Hrithan in the boys’ under-17 quarterfinals are his compatriots Lokesh Subramani and Shiven Agarwal, with Hrithan set to compete against Lokesh. In the boys’ under-19 category, Aryaveer Diwan, Gurveer Singh, and Yusha Nafees have also reached the quarterfinals.

Other Indian players advancing to the quarterfinals include Abhyuday Arora, Dhairya Gogia, and Amarya Bajaj in the boys’ under-13 category, while Alia Kankaria, Shanaya Parsaramputia, and Divyanshi Jain have secured their spots in the girls’ under-13 category. In the boys’ under-15 category, Shreshth Ayyar and Dhruv Bopana have advanced, and in the girls’ under-15 category, Aadiya Budhia has made it through. Anika Dubey and Unnati Tripathi have also secured their places in the girls’ under-17 and under-19 categories, respectively.
