
The Indian Postal Department has released a notification for the recruitment of 28,740 Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS) posts for the year 2026. The online application process starts today, January 31, 2026, inviting candidates who have passed the 10th standard to apply.
Interested and eligible candidates can submit their applications through the official website indiapostgdsonline.gov.in until February 14, 2026. The last date for fee payment is February 16, 2026. The first merit list is expected to be published on February 28, 2026.
Age Limit
The minimum age to apply is 18 years and the maximum age is 40 years. Age relaxation is applicable with 5 years for Scheduled Castes and 3 years for Other Backward Classes.
Educational Qualification
Candidates must have passed the 10th standard with Mathematics and English as compulsory subjects. Knowledge of the local language of the applying postal circle is mandatory. Additionally, candidates should have basic computer skills and the ability to ride a bicycle.
Salary Details
The salary for Branch Postmaster (BPM) ranges from ₹12,000 to ₹29,380, while for Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM) and Dak Sevak, it ranges from ₹10,000 to ₹24,470.
Selection Process
Shortlisting will be based on the merit list prepared from the online applications. Selected candidates will undergo document verification with the divisional head of their respective postal circle. Higher educational qualifications will not provide any advantage; final selection will depend on 10th standard marks.
The application fee is ₹100 for General and OBC candidates. SC, ST candidates and women from all categories are exempted from the fee.
