India Must Adopt a Bold Strategic Perspective Amid Middle East Crisis: Report

New Delhi, March 3: As regional security challenges emerge in the Middle East, India must adopt a broader strategic perspective. It is crucial to understand that European strategic autonomy is inherently limited compared to its own.

As India strengthens its economic ties, it should not harbor the illusion that if its independent foreign policy upsets the United States and the United Kingdom, Europe will come to its rescue.

A report from the Vivekananda International Foundation in New Delhi stated, “The events of February 28, 2026, illustrate how dangerous unchecked American power can be for the stability of any region. From a national security standpoint, New Delhi must now seriously prepare for the ongoing possibility of U.S. intervention, similar to what France began doing within a week of Donald Trump’s inauguration in January 2025.”

According to the report, the roots of such unilateral behavior existed even before the Trump administration. During President Joe Biden’s tenure, India was unfairly targeted through Anglo-American propaganda regarding the deaths of Khalistanis abroad.

The report noted, “Those who were terrorists became ‘undesirable’ in Western media. Just as a planned parade of Iranian exiles supporting U.S. actions against Iran was showcased, critics of India were also allowed to tarnish the country’s image.”

The report highlighted that during the 2026 Munich Security Conference, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio delivered a speech that attracted attention due to its relatively cordial tone, especially when he referred to America as Europe’s offspring.

It stated, “Some analysts observed that Rubio celebrated Europe’s colonial victories, resource extraction, and the history of racial superiority over other civilizations. It seemed he presented Europe with a choice: join the American effort to restore Western dominance or risk becoming obsolete.”

The report indicated that his message hinted at white supremacy within non-white societies in their own countries. This was not a message of foreign hostility within America’s borders, but rather a signal of neo-colonial and neo-imperialist expansion on an international scale, reminiscent of 19th-century “gunboat diplomacy.”
