Jaipur, August 31: In a significant operation, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Rajasthan has arrested a constable, Mohammad Nadeem Qureshi, for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹70,000. The arrest took place on Monday at the Lakheri Railway Police Station, following directives from the ACB headquarters.
According to ACB Director General Govind Gupta, the unit received a complaint against Qureshi, accusing him of harassment and demanding ₹1,00,000. It is alleged that Qureshi threatened the complainant with implicating him in a case of railway goods theft.
The complainant approached the ACB, requesting a sting operation to catch the constable red-handed. A covert investigation was conducted on August 25, during which Qureshi reportedly demanded money in exchange for not framing the complainant. After negotiations, he agreed to accept ₹70,000.
On Monday, the accused contacted the complainant, stating he would come to collect the bribe at his home. Based on this information, the ACB team set up a trap and apprehended him while he was accepting the money. The bribe amount was recovered.
The operation was led by ACB’s Additional Superintendent of Police Rameshwar Parihar, under the supervision of Deputy Inspector General of Police Omprakash Meena from the Bharatpur range. Further inquiries and legal actions are ongoing, overseen by ACB’s Additional Director General of Police Smita Srivastava and Inspector General of Police S. Parimala. A case will be registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
The ACB has issued a warning that individuals facing formal complaints or preliminary investigations can directly contact the bureau to present their side or provide clarifications. As per its Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), the ACB considers any clarifications before deciding on further investigations or actions.
