Beijing, August 31: Ahmed Saidamurodzhoda, Deputy Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), recently stated that as one of the founding member countries, China is consistently expanding the agenda for cooperation and plays a significant catalytic role in the organization’s development and expansion.
Saidamurodzhoda emphasized that since its establishment in 2001, the SCO has been following its own path. In the early stages of its formation, all founding member countries decided to adhere to the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter and expressed their willingness to engage in dialogue, contact, and cooperation with other countries and international and regional organizations in various forms.
Today, the SCO has evolved from its initial six founding member countries into the world’s largest regional organization, with 27 participating countries and ongoing cooperation in over 50 areas. The SCO represents nearly half of the world’s population and accounts for about a quarter of global economic output.
Saidamurodzhoda further noted that China has always played a positive and significant role in the SCO’s development journey. He mentioned that during each term as the chair country of the SCO, China has made substantial contributions to promoting cooperation in regional security, economic trade, and humanitarian efforts, significantly enhancing the organization’s role and influence in regional and global affairs.
He added that the upcoming 2025 SCO Summit in Tianjin will feature abundant achievements and practical plans. Several documents, including the ‘SCO Development Strategy for the Next 10 Years (2026-2035),’ passed during the summit, will provide crucial guidance for the organization’s development and initiate a new chapter in the SCO’s growth.
